Lady Bay Beach was opened to the public and legal nudity status was declared on December 20, 1976.
Nudists have been visiting the beach for over 40 years.

In the 1990s a staircase was built it allow easier access to the beach.
In 2019 the stairs were replaced with a modern and sturdy design:
